In many cases, I encounter the valid question: what is the purpose of occupational health examination?
The job fitness examination it's essence is, on one hand, the prevention;the prevention of diseases through lifestyle/work condition counseling, as well as the early detection of chronic diseases that may have already developed but are still in the initial stages. In infection-prone occupations, vaccinations complement the prevention efforts.
On the other hand, the rehabilitation; assisting the reintegration process of individuals with reduced work capacity, ensuring optimal job roles and working environments for them, thereby preventing further health deterioration.
This also includes the examination of employees returning to work after being on sick leave—whether due to prolonged illness, accident, surgery, or incapacity to work due to a workplace accident. This is important to protect the employee from potential further health deterioration in cases of temporary or permanent decline in health status.
Lifestyle counseling: I believe it is important to help develop and practically implement a mindset that prioritizes the preservation and, where possible, restoration of a person's mental, emotional, and physical health. To this end, I provide my patients with personalized, comprehensive lifestyle counseling (covering nutrition, stress management, exercise, and the significance of vitamin and mineral intake). If needed, we can also prescribe medications based on regularly taken or current symptoms, and during consultations, we will discuss their test results, discharge summaries, and any related questions they may have.
The examinations for driver fitness, machinery operator fitness (e.g., forklift operator), and firearms fitness are also part of the occupational health assessments. During these assessments, we evaluate the individual's health fitness concerning the specific activity.
