The modern digital lifestyle has brought many changes, even from a pediatric ophthalmology perspective. One of my goals at PrimaClinic Health Center is to ensure that screening exams for children about to start school are done in a timely manner. Additionally, we aim to properly treat other pediatric eye conditions, such as strabismus and the increasingly common myopia, and to conduct the necessary ophthalmological examinations required for further education.

Within the ophthalmology department at PrimaClinic, Dr. Zsuzsanna Zita Orosz, our specialist, deals with diseases and problems of the visual system.

In cases of vision impairment, dry eyes, redness, inflammation, or headaches, an ophthalmological examination is recommended. In addition to treating various symptomatic issues, an important task of ophthalmology is to screen for vision-threatening eye diseases, diagnose the causes of vision problems, and recognize or rule out diseases that affect the entire body but present with ophthalmological symptoms. Following the eye examination, we will recommend solutions to the problem. If the vision impairment is caused by a refractive error, our specialist will help find the appropriate correction and prescribe glasses or contact lenses.

Regular participation in ophthalmological screenings is important, even in the absence of symptoms. It is recommended on a yearly basis as a preventive measure to detect and diagnose eye diseases early, allowing timely treatment to prevent potentially irreversible damage.

During an ophthalmological examination, in addition to assessing the health of your eyes, we can also detect other conditions affecting the body, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, neurological, and endocrine disorders. Ophthalmology also plays a crucial role in fitness assessments, as in many cases (e.g., driving), a prior eye examination is essential.

When should you consult our ophthalmologist?

  • As part of a screening examination
  • In cases of vision impairment or visual field loss
  • Blurry vision
  • Frequent headaches
  • Regular dry eyes
  • Red, inflamed, burning eyes
  • Swelling around the eyes
  • Detection of floaters or flashes of ligh

What others said about us

I visited Dr. Zsuzsanna Orosz, an ophthalmologist. I received an appointment quickly, which I was particularly pleased about. The doctor is very kind and conducts the examination extremely thoroughly and precisely. There are no hidden costs here; the price of the examination practically includes everything. What is most important is that I received detailed information about the results of the examination.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a fundus examination and how is it performed?

The detailed examination of the retina is performed using a handheld ophthalmoscope or through a special lens placed in front of the eye.

The internal pressure of a healthy eye is, on average, 14-20 millimeters of mercury higher than atmospheric pressure. The precise measurement is conducted after the application of anesthetic drops, using a special dye and blue light. If the value exceeds the average, further examinations may be necessary to investigate the suspicion of glaucoma.

Cataract refers to the clouding of the eye's lens. Age-related cataract is associated with aging and, according to current knowledge, cannot be prevented. However, other factors also play a role in the development of cataracts, and avoiding these may be important. These include avoiding excessive UV radiation, properly managing diabetes, and refraining from smoking.

In certain ophthalmic conditions, it is necessary to administer eye drops (called dilating drops, because the pupil will become larger). The drop instillation does NOT cause pain, but the pupil remains dilated for hours, and vision will not be clear. A dilated pupil cannot protect the eye from bright light, so wearing sunglasses is recommended during this time.

Diabetes damages the capillaries that supply the retina, but this often does not cause any symptoms for a long time. During the annual fundus examination (with pupil dilation), initial changes that do not yet cause symptoms can be detected in time and treated if necessary.

More about the ophthalmic examination

How does an ophthalmic examination proceed?

Within the framework of the PrimaClinic ophthalmology outpatient service, there is an opportunity to conduct a wide range of ophthalmic and screening examinations. The examination is carried out both instrumentally and physically at the same time, during which we assess the function and structure of the eye.

Our specialist will first conduct a detailed interview with you regarding your current complaints, as well as any previously known and existing conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension) and the medications you are currently taking.

During the examination, Dr. Zsuzsanna Orosz uses the Zita Kettesy visual acuity chart to assess visual sharpness, measures intraocular pressure, and checks color vision. Additionally, a computerized eye examination is conducted to measure the overall refraction of the eye, known as refractometry. Diagnosing refractive errors in the eye is important, and it is advisable to correct them as soon as possible. The absence of proper correction, such as glasses, puts increased strain on both the eye and the brain, leading to eye fatigue and deterioration of sharp vision over time. Focusing problems may be accompanied by headache symptoms, and eye strain can further exacerbate dryness in the eyes, worsening the condition.

During the detailed ophthalmic examination, a fundus examination is also performed, during which our specialist gathers information about the condition of the retina. At this time, the use of dilating eye drops may be necessary, which may cause slight discomfort, but is essential for examining the peripheral areas of the retina.

The results of the examination provide the doctor with insights into the patient's ophthalmic and overall health status. Deviations in the fundus vessels can indicate not only pathological conditions of the eye but also diseases of the small vessels throughout the body (for example hypertension or diabetes caused by these conditions).

After pupil dilation, driving is not recommended for 6 hours, so it is essential to arrive with an escort in this case.

In addition to the aforementioned extensive ophthalmic examinations, there is an opportunity to eyeglass correction to prescribe, kontaktlencse to order, the eye diseases screening for (cataracts, glaucoma), fitness examinations (e.g., driver's fitness) to perform necessary ophthalmic examinations, non-surgical interventions. emergency conditions to provide care for (red eye, removal of non-perforating foreign bodies, etc.) as well as the management of chronic ophthalmic diseases, such as glaucoma, dry eye syndrome..

What are the most common eye diseases?

Myopia
In the case of myopia, also known as nearsightedness, the eyeball is longer than normal. A myopic patient sees nearby objects and people clearly, but distant objects appear blurred. This condition is often genetically determined, but changes in our lifestyle and habits can also significantly affect the deterioration of our sharp vision.
Myopia can be corrected with glasses, contact lenses, or, in certain cases, through surgical methods.

Dry eyes
The declining tear supply to the ocular surface and insufficient moisture of the cornea and conjunctiva is one of the most common eye diseases in developed countries today. In cases of dry eyes, there is an inadequate quantity and/or quality of tears, leading to excessive dryness of the ocular surface. Changes in the tear film result in vision impairment, redness of the eyes, and a foreign body sensation. Therefore, it is important to ensure proper tear film maintenance.

There are several methods available for treating dry eyes. Finding a personalized, step-by-step therapy to restore everyday comfort is done after examining the patient. If the symptoms are mild, using the appropriate eye drops may be sufficient, as they can help alleviate complaints in the long term.

Conjunctivitis
Conjunctivitis is one of the most common inflammatory diseases of the eye. Clear symptoms of conjunctivitis include red, inflamed, burning eyes, as well as watery eyes and eyelids sticking together due to discharge. The most common causes are bacterial or viral infections, but dry eyes and allergic reactions can also be contributing factors.
Bacterial conjunctivitis can be treated with broad-spectrum antibiotic eye drops, while non-infectious inflammation may be managed with steroids, antihistamines, and other anti-inflammatory eye drops.

Fibroma
Fibromas are small growths that are the same color as the skin. The exact cause of their formation is not clearly understood, but they are typically benign lesions. Lesions found on the eyelid are often cosmetically bothersome.
The removal of a fibroma can be easily and quickly performed through surgical excision.
